Lake Huron is actually quite old, but new to those Peloza kids. I think it's their fourth lake in all (maybe only 3 for Eva who has yet to dip her toe into Lake Michigan).
But first things first. In order to prepare for the trip, and life in general, a pedicure! A wonderful bonding experience at the salon. OK, only dad got a pedicure. It was booked long before this date, but at least now Eva knows where she will go for hers.
A two-day trip up north sees the van pass by 100,000 miles. Is this what is meant by a milestone?
A hotel stay brings with a pool. Holy Toledo we went swimming in Toledo. Right off of Alexis Road, no less.
Now for something different, another summer brings with it another ferry. This time on the St. Clair River (which was somehow swollen to about 6 feet above its normal height).
Hey, look who's at nana's house!
Let's just say some wine was consumed this week. Here we get started on Friday afternoon waiting for guests to arrive.
The weekend, as most in Canada are, was puzzle central. We might have also started a new tradition, leaving a puzzle piece behind, stuck in the table slats. Sort of like that thing where people take pictures of the gnome around the world except it's a puzzle piece, and something you leave behind instead of bring home.
Saturday, in the middle of a 95 degree heatwave, started with a late morning swim. The perfect swimming beach at the McEwan Conservation Area (tip to future self: the save park day pass and come here). It's complete with free logs to play with!
Upon return to the house we, you know, drank some wine. Opened a bottle of Silver Oak and shared it with my mom while making a puzzle listening to The Bends by Radiohead. Probably not the typical occasion for such a bottle, but it made complete sense to me.
Part of what made it special was that the grill we trucked up with us was lit just outside the doorway and the process of sitting around watching the grill and puzzling was underway. Around 6 hours later, these emerged.
With ribs come more guests! Welcome, cousin.
After ribs comes the small lemon pie we picked up at the Foodland in Forest. Small town Ontario.
Later, the elder Peloza braintrust sat around the table plotting the next step for the family empire, like some HBO series.
Cole, the whole time, was at home and unimpressed.
We celebrated our return with some new boss wedding wear, getting ready for the next great summer adventure.
