Europe

Finally, almost a week after returning, I am able to write about this year's Europe trip. OK, that sounds a little elitist. But there we have it.

We start in good old Amsterdam. A full day plus to regenerate from the trip, worked quite well. Despite an airport hotel we managed to get into the city both of the two days. Nothing particularly noteworthy, but some good canal scenes and good meals.

Next week get back to SLOVEnia. It was good to be back, and the garden at Ivanke Kozuh is still as inviting as ever.

So is the school down the street. This time Taja was a student, so after so many years of being in this schoolyard (beginning with drinking in 1991) I finally could go to the school to pick up a student!

This weird kid showed up and even freaked Levi out with his strange, over the top manners.

That night we spent eating and drinking, a familiar theme, in the Odperta Kuhna. Complete with chalk drawings and kids showing perfect gopnik squat form.

Levi wanted to draw Homer Simpson, so he looked on my phone. Then drew this freehand! Not bad for a kid.

The next day was reserved for out in the country. Some went to Lake Bled....

While others went up to Kranjska Gora on a couple of 650 bikes.

Meeting for a late lunch (more eating and drinking) at a country place with some of the best bread on the planet.

One thing that people find with Eva is that when you sit with her, you have a strong compulsion to give her a squeeze.

Back to the familiar picnic area back in town, and Eva helps prepare - you guessed it - more food.

Levi fulfills the male stereotype at these things.

Sunday is all about Smarna Gora (the other Gora). Getting to the top if a feat, and Levi immediately goes for exercise.

Happy times at the top. The three hours we spent - you guessed it - eating and drinking at the top of this mountain might have been the best three hour stretch of the year.

Coming back down we end up back at the Tacen picnic spot, to... you know... eat and drink. Some of us head to the Sava river to get some movement in before we get back into food. But the beer travels well (empty bottle, used by kids to ferry water).

And skipping stones in another continent.

Sunday brought a a cancelled coast trip, and let us just sit around the city. Perfect last day. Yes, a lot of eating and drinking, with the drinking ending up after midnight in a wine shop down the street from our apartment. Drinking wine with the group of sommeliers that meets there one a month to, you know, drink.

An early flight for a change in venue, back to the Netherlands. Early flights mean nap time and the perfect light.

Not such a scripted story for the next four days in Rotterdam. Can't even say for sure when this selfie was taken by the kids. Heck, it might be from Smarna, but the Rotterdam set needed some bulk.

Kids have a day at the usual theme park.

Added this year was a smaller set of stuff around the lake, not far from our home. Who can resist a zipline?

Of course this part was work for dad, but a nice sight to come home to each day.

Once home, things would turn crazy.

The last night the idea came to go back to the Watertower restaurant. A great place and location. Good light for pictures and a perfect last memory from a legendary trip.
