Dog Days

I don't know why they call them the dog days of summer. The dogs have been doing pretty much what they do all year long. Lay around. Are there days of summer that aren't dog days? Are the days of summer all dog days, or are there specific days within summer that are designated dog days? Is it a temperature thing? Like if the temperature reaches 90 degrees, does that classify it as a "dog day." Who makes such a designation? If it's the National Weather Service, are dogs days an American phenomenon? Are there "jours des chiens" in France?

Those Peloza kids can't be bothered with such matters, and continued on in their march to awesomeness, unabated. We had a full house for Eva's birthday. Her Eva shows off the princess cake her Aunt Jan made for her. Levi photo bombs as best he can.

If you could take two Disney treasures and mash them up, what would you get? A mermaid holding a robot. Birthday girl.

The water fun continued through the dog days. Certainly the dog days can't be about swimming or keeping cool in water through the summer. Wet dog, ugh.

Levi has spent the summer saying how he wished everything was made of food. No, really, it's a thing. We decided, though, that we'd still need money that was actual money because we'd need to buy another house in case someone eats the one we have now. Follow the logic. Still, mad scientist Levi has made some progress, figuring out how to make fingertips from raspberries.

Perhaps dog days are those spent indoors, working on things out of the heat. Like knitting, lessons from Nana.

Levi scoffs at the idea. Suggs' chicken fingers will make even the most stern observer into a laughing fool.

What is this fascination with those Peloza kids wearing their dad's glasses? Maybe dog days refers to the act of doing things twice. Astute readers will note this is the second time in one post I have two pics from basically the same event.

It gets strange.

Throw in a fancy dinner for a girl with big girl heels and there you are.

The highlight of this particular day was a hike a Natural Bridge. In part because of the hike itself, but in part because it was a 2 mile hike up some decent ascent and those Peloza kids nailed it. First a wobbly bridge.

Next, a wall of rock.

Finally, under the bridge, looking to mimic the bears that roam the area.

Take me to the place I love. Take me all the way.

Look it up, people.
