Continuing into sometime in our second decade of this endeavor, we had some real fun early this year. The start of the new school year reminded me of a moment I had when I first saw the move Forrest Gump (in the balcony of the theatre in north Yonge Street in Toronto no less). The scene where his son first goes to school and there is some uncertainty. Forrest tells his son that he'll be waiting right there for him when he gets home. At that time I wondered how nice it would be to have the ability to spend time around home and be there to greet my kids, but couldn't imagine how that could ever be. I mean, Forrest was a millionaire who didn't need to go to a job every day. And yet here I am telling my kids that I'll be waiting for them when they get home. I make a point of saying that, even thought it has been that way for a long time. I just like the feeling of saying it, each time remembering that I didn't think it would ever be possible for me.
More on kids' progression, we saw this month two developments. As many people know, I parrot many things in life, and a sure sign of development of my children has to be the occasional parrot of me. Levi, when bowling, came back after just missing a spare and proclaimed that "it's all about pin count these days" That's my line! The next week, while making a cheese rice cake for Eva I kept adding more cheese each time. On the fourth one I said I might have made it too cheesy, to which she replied "now that's impossible." That's my line! Of all the things I want them to emulate, some good lines for which they can be known is right at the top of the list.
Wrestling wore down to a close, with Eva and I taking an opportunity during practice for a date night.
We had some quality family Uno time. I wonder what dogs think when we all sit around a table and throw cards down.
Later in the night we all went to our separate corners.
Eva kept herself entertained by making me increasingly complex tortilla, guac and salsa sandwiches.
For future reference, if any reader ever tries a breakout game, first bring a light t-shirt and shorts. Second, bring hand sanitzier. Third, call me and I call tell you the clues to look for. Largely a random, non-sensical thing where you have no idea what you are looking for. But hint... if you do the train one, at the end you need to look on the ground for a special card that lets you access the controls to stop the train. See what I mean?
Finally here are to random pictures of Cole.
