Christmas

Skating for the first time of the season. Everyone was a little bit rusty at first. Mine came back the quickest. Levi was pretty quick to get it back, although he did complain about his back being sore after a while. Eva was rusty at first and after a few minutes even got one of the things she could lean on. It frustrated her pretty quickly, though, and she decided she would just figure out. She really did, to the point where I wouldn't need to slow down very much to skate next to her. With Levi I could pretty much go a slow pace and he could keep up while doing laps.

It's too bad that skating isn't a year-round thing because it's kind of the perfect activity to do with the kids. Especially at this age, before they might either not want to go or go but then only hang out with friends (like the gaggle of girls I saw alternating between trying to skate and looking at their phones). I think I might even go ahead and get us all our own skates. You know, prepping for the move back to Canada...

Meanwhile, Cole didn't do anything different at all. It's the earth that did the work, rotating around the sun to provide the perfect light upon where Cole lay.

Then we move on to bowling. in alternating days. Keeping cool in the blower-thingy.

Next comes the big day. You can tell it's Christmas when certain things happen. Like Christmas Vacation. This year was the 30th anniversary of me watching, and quoting, that movie. Two years even longer for A Christmas Story. Two or maybe three years for - gulp - Holiday Inn. Not the hotel. Well, yes, the hotel, but not the hotel you think is the hotel.

Anyway, big day. This year's picture.

We relive the Kentucky Christmas tradition by spending virtually the entire day outside in shorts.

And a little bit of time in the theatre watching the second Frozen movie.

Then the next day, a little more sitting around.

Then, after buying some new skates, skating for the first time of the season...
