Thanksgiving week started very early and with a familiar sight, snow on the ground. On a school night Levi went outside to play in the snow. Just like his dad used to do. And just like his dad, he needed to be called in to get ready for bed, otherwise he'd have stayed out until midnight. And again just like every small boy, ten seconds after this picture he smashed the giant snowball on the porch.
Eva comes to town, and asks to go to dad's office as part of our lunch date. Should have known, she just likes to play teacher using the white board. And as with past white board play, she writes the very best messages.
Lunch also includes a pose with wildcat.
The real treat of the week was a stretch of almost three days in Illinois. I'm not sure if Cole is saying he isn't as happy as me to be there for Thanksgiving, but I think it's more about his caving canine instincts to be tucked away. Under that turkey, just in case it comes to life he's ready to pounce.
With dogs and kids and dogs and no kids and kids and no dogs (not sure that last one happened) we spent much of the daylight walking in the woods. Another Fall scene, it's a shame this isn't our backyard because it's a great place for kids to play.
Thanksgiving day itself included mule rides and a Joe Kenda marathon as I recuperated from turkey and spent time with the dogs. For future readers, you can Lougle Kenda Homicide Hunter and my, my, my... Also, you can search for Lougle as you bask in your hot tub.
The evening saw everyone back at home being entertained by our wonderfully weird Eva. "Hey, what's up." And the introduction, I'm guessing which will be brief, of the Eva foot massage. Seriously the best foot massage from this self-taught master.
This year we started a new tradition, one born out of rain which made getting a tree less than appealing. So we went bowling to start a new tradition. Yes, I realize it was shabbos and some folks don't roll on shabbos. But I choose to roll on shabbos. Again, for future readers, just Lougle it. We also tried the new Malibu Jacks, including the indoor roller coaster.
Eva's first teen pose, get ready for many more than look like this.
Levi copies the technique he sees in his dad. Both Peloza kids did pretty well, and even beat Alexis (although they did have the benefit of bumpers). Like Kip. Lougle it.
We finish the weekend, and I'm writing this from the finale, in what seems to be developing into a new tradition. A Tennessee hotel with Youtube on the TV. At least I had the sense to stop at the Food City to get something healthy to go with all this brain candy.
All in, and excuse me if this is getting tired, the times we all spend together just keep getting better.

The best part of the trip came the day before the official Thanksgiving when I spent almost the entire day in one chair. It started slow and lazy, with a slow breakfast and walk in the woods. Then I started into the 1000 piece dog puzzle. Took a break to walk in the woods again, ate roasted veggies in place for lunch, and drank copious amounts of tea that was brought to me. Throughout the 7+ hours stretch of the puzzle, I was surrounded by the comings and goings of the most amazing wife in the world, embarrassingly fantastic in-laws, of course those Peloza kids, and two pups. Across the road and back again, out on the deck and back in again, out to the garage and back again, I was the constant in the room and it was perfect. Most people wouldn't describe their ideal Thanksgiving day as basically sitting in one spot doing a 1000 piece puzzle but it was perfect. Those Peloza kids put in about 75 of the total pieces as they came and went, but once we got to the last 50 pieces or so we were up against the pizza that was coming out of the oven at any minute. Both fought to put in the last piece, and here we are.
