After more than a month away, and fielding many requests from our fans (Alexis) for an update, here you go. It took Eva to motivate the post, because the only things that happened before this past weekend were a new musical instrument for Trombone Shorty here...
... and the realization that my life is what most can only imagine as a mythical treasure. Now I have the proof.
Now on to the sunshine. The vibe between these two is so quick to form, with Levi asking at least 5 times when we were picking up Eva from school. Some quick fort building upon arrival and the kids are right back in the pool.
Day and night.
Changing up from the pool to some golf. Levi's got more of a hockey swing.
Later in the evening, this girl gets back to her nails and contortion. One of these two hobbies will hopefully end up on a college application.
Eva seemed to grab more from the weekend than Levi. One evening, she and went down to the pool to just put our feet in. Next thing you know, with our clothes on, we're in the pool. Followed by popcorn throwing back up in the room. We decided that the fifteenth time is a charm.
For our first breakfast we continued the tradition of toast, egg and avocado made jointly by Eva and dad.
Then, the centerpiece of the weekend, the sailing and snorkeling trip. We had the new snorkels lined up and ready to go, anxious to be "those people" that bring their own snorkels to a snorkel trip. Snorkel. Say it.
Heading out of the harbor the kids were excited but it was even better than the excited faces below would suggest.
The only way to top what was turning out to the best day in months is to find a place to watch the football game and have oysters. Those Peloza kids. Even Levi tried a raw oyster this time. His assessment? "OK, squishy."
Back at the apartment to watch the rest of the game, Eva's hair salon was open for business. While so focused on the game I didn't realize I had consented to pigtails. But as anyone with experience will tell you, if you trust the vision of the trained stylist, you end up with a little bit of magic in the end.
Sundays are always lazy, especially when you wake up to find the power out. After a while of playing various ipad games, the kids often get into making their own "try not to laugh" videos. Watching them, I have to admit that's nearly impossible not to laugh. This round consisted a lot of singing a song about Havana O-nana followed by an "achoo!" sneeze sound. Repeated for about half an hour. Eva's face, when she pretends to be exasperated....
Mainly a travel day, then, but a stop at a favorite Tallahassee late lunch spot where the kids completed their adoption of a bear with a diaper and various casts.

We spent almost a full hour snorkeling at Shell Island. Not too many shells, although we found a couple hermit crabs. The highlight, though, was the fish. Thousands of them. Eva even caught one. But these guys (and I) could have easily spent the entire afternoon in about 3 feet of water swimming around with tiny fish. Eva ended up going with the old goggles instead of the snorkel, just gave her more flexibility to dive down to the bottom. So much swimming, in fact, that between the 6 or 7 bucks worth of boat snacks they ate on the way back, Levi grabbed a 30 second nap.
