So for this thing called Fall Break we decide to go west. Way west. All the way to Illinois. Midwest, some call it. I don't know about the cat, but I call it Paradise. And I'm not talking about Muhlenberg County neither. OK, let's get serious. I don't like to get too serious. Seriously, stop it.
The familiar confines of an I-64 rest area with monkey bars. The very monkey bars where Levi first went end to end, and Eva made it a couple of links on her own. It provides an opportunity to not only see progress with Levi who can now knock out the row of bars two at a time, but to flashback to a pic from July 2014 from the same spot.
The dogs loved the walks in the woods, although the elevation changes and humidity took its toll on Cole, who couldn't wait to get a drink when we got home.
Calli was a little less brutish, and a little more chill. Here on the deck lounging in the evening cool.
Speaking of the deck in the evening cool, I was struck by this amazing family, and what I think is a new gathering spot for memories. Not memories that are tied to a specific event, but memories that are tied to specific feelings. Fireflies in the early summer kind of memories. Looking at bugs and the frogs that gather to prey on them, or just slowly swinging.
But this is the country, after all, and if we don't work we don't eat. So Levi is put to work digging sand to fill up an old well.
Levi has the perfect gift picked out for Mike on grandparents' day. One of those T-shirts that says "I like work. It fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours." Only because Levi was a shovel hog and wouldn't share the fun. And oh what fun we had.
Then came the real fun. Levi driving his dad around in the mule. Better than the 4-wheeler because a) he can drive with a wheel to mimic driving a car, and b) he has less chance of killing the both of us. He is positively beaming. Peekaboo Donna over here.
