Last night Eva and I went to the Napolean Dynamite show. The movie followed by the Napolean, Pedro and Uncle Rico doing a show and talking about the movie. Right at the part when they're at the dance and Forever Young comes on I was overwhelmed by a rush of emotion. It was a series of thoughts all rolled into one and tears all in under a second.
The song triggered the memory of the last aerials show when she performed to this song. Maybe the last time I'll see her do an aerial show, and how perfect it was. Then the movie and how it's maybe the thing we share the most. It's the weirdness of it, combined with the message that the weirdos win. There were lots of parents there with their kids, and it struck me parents and children find those things that bind them together in life. And then it hit me. There will come a day when she will watch the movie without me. I'll be gone, and she will remember how we shared each scene and line.
I immediately grabbed her hand and held it. I need to make the most of every minute and focus on what is important. I hope that when she watches Napolean Dynamite one day and thinks of me she thinks of all the amazing times we had, all the things we shared, and smiles because she can picture me imitating lines from the movie.
