I know this won't show in readings way into the future, but I've been remiss in not posting about this earlier, having come back from Florida five days ago. Back from the beautiful 2 bedroom villa on the shores of some bay on the Gulf of Mexico. First up, when shopping with dad, are the potato chips. Eva loves them. Get it?
With a high of sixty-something, being January, what else would Canadians like us do other than go to the outdoor pool. The water was crazy warm, which turns out to be because it's heated. As much as I enjoyed being able to swim in what felt like 76 degree water in January, I couldn't help but wonder about the mechanics of such a thing. Those baby boomer retirees, nothing is too good for them! Still killing the planet after all these years.
This time we tried Hunt's again (readers will recall that Eva and I were shut out from fresh oysters when we were here in the fall). Not this time, and we timed it such that we didn't need to wait 2 hours for a table at Hunt's. The people there we so impressed that they insisted they put the kids' artwork on the wall before we left. If you go, the pictures will be hanging at the first table to the left of the bar as you walk in the door. Might be under glass now, though, to prevent sun damage going forward.
In addition to potato chips, another thing dad buys from time to time down here is an alcoholic beverage. In this case, a nice bottle of Orin Swift the Prisoner. But like any good liquor store, this one has a place for kids to play among branded items for a fine 40% alcohol per volume product!
On to the lovely strip of secluded beach at sunset. Pity about those trees growing out of the kids' heads.
As I lounged on a chair the kids set about to build some sort of domicile out of sand. The image of the two of them combing the beach for who knows what, with the sunset framing their shadows, is my best memory of the trip. An evening at the beach with a sibling in the halcyon years of kidness. It doesn't get any better. Feel free to download one of the pictures below with both kids, and use it to create a meme with the term "childhood" across the top. You can fill in the bottom part yourself.
