So this week Eva bid adieu to Lexington. Finishing on a strong note, both kids demonstrate their championship potential.
Seeing them put in the hours of repetition and practice (Eva bangs out 4 hours at a time, Levi asked to stay behind to work on his red form one night last week) brings to mind a clip I saw on TV just yesterday (in my hotel TV binge) of Jimmy Valvano. Former coach of NC State, who won a championship in the early 80s. Seems to typify everything you'd want to see in collegiate sports, or any sport for that matter. Anyway, he was talking about when he went to NC State he told his dad he was going to win a national championship. His dad said he would pack a bag, he knew he could achieve that dream and wanted to be ready to be there with him. Year after year he would say the same thing. Then Valvano talks about the gift his dad gave him... the gift of always believing in him. I hope those Peloza kids know, and I will redouble my efforts to ensure they know, I think they can do anything when decide they want to do it.
For Cole, on the other hand, I give up. While Calli may be willing to put in the hours waiting for that cat or squirrel, Cole seems content to let his people take care of his needs.
But speaking of the path toward growth, one lucky girl gets to have two birthdays this year.
