The point about the leisurely start will now be paid off... by the time we finished, it was a dark twilight. And out on the dock Eva was in perfect light. And she hooked the moon!
On the way home Eva had the window down and stared out the window for pretty much the whole time, the warm night air seemed to calming for her. The feeling reminded me of warm summer nights in one particular summer in Wallaceburhg.
So off to the coast, as advertised. More with a leisurely pace, we first hit the beach to collect a few shells and make a castle.
After some deliberation we decided to have Mexican for lunch. The same place (and the same booth!) where the picture below with Levi was taken after his fever scare when he was in Jacksonville. 2010, long-long-long time readers may remember.
Plan for the afternoon, another beach of course. Heading down A1A, Eva again had the window down and to further put me in a nostalgic frame of mind we had Forever Now by the Psychedelic Furs playing. Appropriate music for the moment, wanting to keep the feeling forever.
But shells and sunburn was waiting. We found some sort of conch, with the conch itself still living inside of it! After some discussion, we decided it would be better to put it back in the ocean rather than kill it for the shell. My little conservationist! Still, we got pictures to prove the find (including one with brave Eva holding it).
But the beach was more than shells, it was mostly about the jumping over waves.
Like kindergarten cop, don't turn your back on the ocean!
That evening was chill, lots of Uno and Old Maid in the room. But we discovered "cheers, lamp!" So much fun.
The next day was my return to Amelia Island, for lunch with our girl. This is the second time I've brought someone to the island, even to the same waterfront spot. Eva was enthralled with the idea of a place having the name of a girl, so the entire 3 hour ride home was spent talking about Eva Island, and all that was in it. She owned a restaurant (Eva's Pop Oysters) where Levi (a different one, not her brother) worked as a chef (after he decided to stop being a tae kwon do master) and also was a chef for the king (King John). She was texting on her new oyster phone (large oyster shell from the beach the day before) to the Eva Island Police Chief, making sure no robber stole the oysters. And also to get ready for the big storm (on the east part of the island, the west part was safe). The only problem with the restaurant was that a jumping fish was out of the tank. They put it back in.
Meanwhile at home, Levi was as happy as a clam. Or rather, a crawfish, at a crawfish boil. Well, maybe the crawfish aren't that happy at a boil, but Levi was happy. And an amazing start to the football season!
Anybody notice all the exclamation points in this post? What's up with that!?
